The Atlantic halibut fishery in Maine is sustainably managed with a seasonal quota system. The brief season starts May 18 and lasts through June 13. Fishermen are only permitted to catch and tag 25 halibut per season, with minimum size requirements to prevent juvenile fish from being caught.
