Tuna Steak Frites

Serves 4

Tuna Steak Frites

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bluefin tuna steaks
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • French fries (if you're feeling chef-y, make your own!)

Chimichurri Ingredients

  • 1 cup parsley3 garlic cloves
  • 2 Tbsp fresh oregano
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp red or white wine vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and Pepper

Directions

  1. Finely chop the parsley, fresh oregano, and garlic (or process in a food processor several pulses). Place in a small bowl.
  2. Stir in the olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  3. Heat 2 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium high heat until the oil starts to shimmer.
  4. Season tuna steaks with a generous amount of salt and pepper.
  5. Sear tuna in hot oil for 1-2 minutes on each side until it creates nice crust. Cooking note: we like to eat our tuna cooked rare and it is safe to eat like that! But if you prefer a more well done tuna steak, feel free to cook slightly longer.
  6. Slice tuna steak on bias, top with chimichurri sauce, and serve alongside your favorite fries.
